WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA PROGRAM
COMES TO ELLINGTON
The Ellington Patriotic Committee will be participating in the Wreaths Across America Program for the first time this year. The program, which honors our veterans at over 500 participating locations nationwide, including Arlington National Cemetery, will be held on Saturday, December 11 at 12:00 Noon at the Veterans’ Memorial in Ellington Center Cemetery.
Seven ceremonial wreaths will be placed to remember all those who served in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines, and to honor their sacrifices. Specially designed wreaths will be placed at the Veterans’ Memorial during a ceremony that will be coordinated simultaneously at 500 locations in all 50 states across the country. A ceremonial wreath will also be placed at the POW/MIA Monument adjacent to the Library. Additional wreaths will be placed at the War Monuments on the Town Green, at the Veteran’s Memorial Park in the Crystal Lake section of Town and the D.A.R. Chapter will sponsor a wreath for the small cemetery adjac ent to the entrance to the Library.
It is the Committee’s intent to promote sponsorship of wreaths by civic groups and individuals for placement of wreaths on veterans’ graves throughout the Cemetery in future years.
Wreaths will also be placed at 24 national cemeteries on foreign soil.
